Agri-food Sector PERTE

On 8th February 2022, the Council of Ministers approved the Strategic Project for the Recovery and Economic Transformation (PERTE) for the food and agriculture sector in order to provide the necessary financing and courses of action to tackle the environmental, digital, social and economic changes which will be faced in the next decade.

The PERTE, which is managed by the Ministries of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food; Industry, Commerce and Tourism; Economic and Digital Transformation; as well as the Ministry of Science and Innovation, aims to foster the transformation of the agri-food chain and promote the modernization and digitization of the sector, its economic growth and territorial cohesion.

The PERTE will have a public investment of about 1 billion euros until 2023. It is anticipated to have an initial impact on the economy of some 3 billion euros, as well as creating an estimated net 16,000 jobs. The positive effects on the economy resulting from the creation of new models and business opportunities, new job opportunities generated by actions linked to the PERTE, as well as savings generated in the production system, domestic economies and public budgets should also be added to this amount.
